I was browsing through my picture library when I came across the Nathan Ridge Run album. This was my first official 5k run held at Tagaytay Highlands, a premier leisure destination just 90 minutes south of Manila, on November 20, 2011.
For Php 850, I got myself a singlet, a Nathan Sprint handheld and a post-race meal. It was a good deal, considering that the Nathan Sprint water bottle costs around that range.
Nathan Performance Gear redefined road races that day. Plastic cups were not used on hydration stations; runners were required to bring their Nathan water bottles instead. It was an environmental move from the organizers, instilling in runners the economical way of using reusable hydration bottles on races instead of adding to the plastic waste problem common among regular road runs.
The venue was an added factor to the redefining of road races. Tagaytay Highlands is nestled along Tagaytay Ridge, known for its cool climate and hilly terrain. Woe to those who did not fully prepare for the uphill run! The stunning panoramic view of the Taal Volcano and the serene countryside landscape of Tagaytay Highlands were perfect consolations for the knee pains.
Looking at the pictures made me look forward to my second race on September 23. I’ll be joining the Rexona Run 2012 to be held at the SM Mall of Asia grounds. Let me see if I can beat RunRio’s 30-minute challenge. ~nel
