Backlogs and adjustments: Four Feet Out is back!

We just hit a major milestone in our lives that everything, including this blog, seemed to be put on hold. We recently got married.

Just got married! Photo by Chito Cleofas

Moving into our own space and figuring out a schedule for all household tasks was exciting and exhausting at the same time. Good thing we tried travelling and multiday camping together before we tied the knot — we already had an idea on how the other will cope through it all.

So after three months of trial and error, we would like to think we somehow got the right flow for us. Of course there will be some fine tuning along the way but for now, we are enjoying the current state of things.

Except for our blog. Well, this has always been a work in progress. Soon you will see something about the following items here:

1. Mizuno Wave Enigma 6 – a highly-cushioned shoe for neutral runners,
2. Milestone Pod – that tiny thing you can put on your shoe to track sports-related activities,
3. Anytime Fitness Maginhawa – launching of the most accessible fitness center (in our opinion), and
4. Powerman Duathlon – launching of one of the most anticipated duathlon race in the country.

And AMCI climbs. And race launches. And many more. Ha!

Let’s all hope we can manage this much better. 😀

Gotta go to the supermarket,
Don and Nel

Garmin® Announces the fēnix® 5 series in the Philippines – Multisport GPS Watches for Fitness, Adventure and Style

Subic Bay, Philippines / February 11, 2017 — Garmin, today announces the fēnix 5, fēnix 5S and fēnix 5X, adding three watches designed with adventurers of all sizes in mind to its popular line of multisport GPS wearables. The fēnix 5S is lighter, sleeker and smaller than previous models – perfect for small wrists without sacrificing multisport functionality. The fēnix 5X boasts preloaded wrist-based mapping, and the compact fēnix 5, like other fēnix watches, is feature-packed and ready to take on any adventure with an all-new industrial design. All of the fēnix 5 models are 24/7 wearable with extended battery life, daily activity tracking1, Garmin Elevate™ wrist heart rate technology, and a host of connected features2. Users can easily switch between stylish leather and metal accessory bands to sporty silicone in seconds and without tools, thanks to the new QuickFit™ bands. With the new fēnix 5 lineup, users now have a watch that compliments their style and adventures. The fēnix 5, 5S and 5X pre-orders are being announced in conjunction with the Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center. The new range will be available starting on the last week of March 2017 at official Garmin resellers, Garmin Center stores and kiosks around the country. Exclusive deals and discounts are offered for those who will pre-order the limited first batch of fēnix 5 watches.

The fēnix 5S has been named a CES 2017 Innovation Awards Honoree in the wearable technologies category in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA upon its global reveal this year. Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, independent engineers and members of the trade media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products across 28 product categories. “After years in the wearables market, Garmin knows that athletes and adventurers come in all sizes, which is why we have designed the new line of fēnix 5 watches to fit every wrist and every workout,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of worldwide sales. “This is the first time Garmin has created a variety of sizes for one product so now users don’t have to choose between getting the features they want and wearing a watch that fits.”

Measuring 47mm, the fēnix 5 has a brand new industrial design and is more compact than previous models like the fēnix 3HR, but is still packed with multisport features. All of the new fēnix 5 models are available in a variety of colors and finishes with more accessory bands available (sold separately), which makes the new QuickFit bands a great addition. Users can mix and match between their choice of leather, metal or silicone watchbands and switch between them in seconds with no tools needed. Easier than changing clothes for different occasions, fēnix 5 users just need to swap, click and go to change out their band. The first fēnix designed with a focus on female adventurers, the fēnix 5S is a sleek, smaller sized watch. At 42mm, fēnix 5S is small and comfortable for petite wrists, without compromising any multisport features. Both stylish and functional, fēnix 5S is available in silver with either a white, turquoise or black silicone band with a mineral glass lens. The fēnix 5S Sapphire has a scratch-resistant sapphire lens and is available in black with a black band, or champagne with a water resistant gray suede band or champagne with a metal band. The fēnix 5S Sapphire units also come with an extra silicone QuickFit band.

Preloaded with TOPO Asia Pacific mapping, routable cycling maps and other navigation features like Round Trip Run and Round Trip Ride, the fēnix 5X measures at 51mm. With these features, users can enter how far they’d like to run or ride, and their watch will suggest appropriate courses to choose from. Users can also get at-a-glance guidance from their fēnix 5X. During an activity, easy-to-read guidance cues for upcoming turns are displayed as banners on the watch so users are always aware of their route. Additionally, fēnix 5X users can use the Around Me map mode to see different points of interest, waypoints and other map objects within the user’s range to help users be more aware of their surroundings. Users can configure their fēnix 5X to see data overlays on mapping screens, and to see highlight key information without having to switch screens during an activity. The pre-loaded TOPO Asia Pacific maps include detailed maps of the Philippines and other countries in the Asia Pacific region plus over 40,000 golf courses.

All of the new fēnix 5 models come preloaded with the full multisport toolset for running, hiking, swimming, biking and more that has made the fēnix line one of Garmin’s bestselling wearables. Whether users are on an adventure, or just in the gym, Garmin Elevate wrist heart rate technology gives users 24/7 heart rate monitoring, without needing a chest strap. In addition to the wide variety of sport profiles, all three fēnix 5 models have daily activity tracking, so users can wear their fēnix as a daily timepiece and a rugged training tool. Built-in navigation features include a 3-axis compass, gyroscope and barometric altimeter, as well as GPS and GLONASS support to track in more challenging environments than with GPS alone. Users can also keep their training stats right at their fingertips with a performance widget that shows training status, training load and more. In addition to the multiport features, the fēnix 5, 5S and 5X boast a variety of connected features. When paired with a compatible smartphone, users can get call, text and email smart notifications right on their wrist. All fēnix 5 models are compatible with Connect IQ so users can customize their watch with apps, widgets, data fields and watch faces. To take watch faces one step further, fēnix 5 watches are compatible with the Face It app, so users can set their favorite photo as their watch face. Sapphire models are Wi-Fi® Enabled, so users can connect their watch to their home network for automatic uploads to Garmin Connect™ when within range. Each of the new fēnix 5 models is water rated to 100 meters3, and is built to withstand the elements with a stainless-steel bezel, buttons and rear case. The fēnix 5 can get up to two weeks of battery life in smartwatch mode and 24 hours in GPS mode. The fēnix 5X can get up to 12 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and 20 hours in GPS mode. The fēnix 5S can get up to eight days in smartwatch mode and up to 13 hours in GPS mode.4 Users can also take advantage of the UltraTrac™ power saver mode to extend battery life even more. The fēnix 5, 5S and 5x will be available in Q1 2017.

Upon launch, the fēnix 5 and fēnix 5S will have a suggested retail price of Php 36,950; the fēnix 5 Sapphire, fēnix 5S Sapphire at Php 39,950 and the fēnix 5X will have a suggested retail price of Php 42,950. Only watches purchased from authorized dealers in the Philippines will include the exclusive 2-Year Garmin Protect Warranty and invite-only programs ran by Garmin Connect Coaches plus 20% discounts from partner institutions like the PACE Pre-hab & Recovery Center. “Garmin devices are well known to be tough, rugged and of the best quality – but as an added commitment to our customers, we are offering the exclusive 2-Year Garmin Protect Warranty for those who purchased their devices from official resellers in the Philippines. By June this year, Garmin will open its first ever local service and repair facility to be ran and managed by NAVCO so that servicing can be done locally. We hope this will be a good news to many loyal Garmin fans”, said NAVCO president, Ryan Tan.

Earth Day Run 2017
April 23, 2017
SM Mall of Asia grounds
5K, 10K, 21K and 42K
All race kits come with LED shoelaces
Prizes for runners in costume made from recycled materials
Advocacy banners above the finish line
Register at from March 1 to April 16, 2017

Another first for me this year as I join the 8th Earth Day Run on April 23, 2017. This is National Geographic’s way of raising public awareness on environmental issues through health and fitness. National Geographic Earth Day Run 2017 is partnered by Cherifer Premium and World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF). The event will be held simultaneously in the cities of Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Taichung, an initiative that was adopted last year and effectively spread the vision and advocacy of Earth Day Run across Asia.

Eco Warriors — participants from previous Earth Day Runs — can help raise awareness by using the hashtag #8withEDR. They will be welcomed in VIP treatment with special loyalty perks to be enjoyed on the day of the run. Participants from previous Earth Day Runs will be given priority placement in front of the starting line at the beginning of the race and can claim their loot bags and finisher shirt at a special express booth. They can also make use of a special warm-up and cool down tent before and after the race to condition themselves and recover in comfort. I should have joined the previous Earth Day Runs so I get to enjoy these.

Participants may visit the 8 Years of EDR Gallery at the race village and learn about what the event has accomplished over the years, including the environmental and social initiatives it has benefited with the help of its registered runners. Visitors to the gallery will learn how their participation at Earth Day Run has made a significant impact on certain communities in the Philippines as well as how their actions as individuals can affect the environment.

Last year, Earth Day Run participants ran to benefit such causes as saving the Irawaddy dolphins at the Malampaya Sound Research and Conservation Project in Palawan; giving the Earth Hour or “Gift of Life” village in Monreal, Masbate sustainable solutions that reduce carbon footprint; conservation of the Marine Protected Area and coral reef in Apo Reef in Occidental Mindoro; and beefing up reforestation efforts in the Ipo Watershed in Bulacan, which supplies Metro Manila with fresh water. Registered runners at Earth Day Run 2017 will not only experience a fun day of outdoor fitness by joining this year’s event, but will also be doing their part in contributing to National Geographic’s environmental efforts.

Legion Run Set to Conquer The Philippines in 2017

A totally new outdoor experience is set to conquer the Philippines and excite people who love adventure, challenges and the outdoors in 2017. Called the “Legion Run”, this event is a 5km team-oriented run with 20+ obstacles that offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience to people of all levels of physical fitness and ability, due to its non-competitive nature.

The Legion Run, which is to be held for the first time in the Philippines, is an international event where successful runs were held for the past years in different parts of the world such as France, Italy, Poland, Greece, Israel, Bulgaria and more.

The Philippine debut of the event, the second to be held in Asia, is set on March 4, 2017 at the Greenfield City in Laguna, Philippines. There will be elements of mud, fire, ice and barbed wire all throughout the obstacle course and participants are expected to hurdle these by jumping, climbing and crawling.

Finishers complete the experience by conquering all these body and mental challenges, worthy enough for them to be regarded as true-blooded “legionnaires”. Legionnaires can then celebrate their success with food, drinks and various post-event attractions that can be found in the Legion Run Festival Area.

Legion Run is more than just a run or an event. It’s an experience of a lifetime. Everyone participates for a different reason but they finish all the same; “changed”. This isn’t a race and the only prize to win is Pride. Legion Run is about overcoming personal challenges and the thrill of proving to yourself you CAN. But most of all, it’s about getting out there and having FUN again.

To learn more about the Legion Run, follow our social media accounts in Facebook: or
and Instagram, email at

IS LEGION RUN A COMPETITION? Feel free to challenge yourself and your teammates with this course – but it is neither a race nor a competition… We don’t time you at all!

There will be no prizes, no certificates – but we also love doing surprises so who knows.

You will, however, finish with an exclusive “ I Am Legion” shirt, medal, a beer in your hand and an absolute high knowing you conquered quite a feat!

There will also be new friendships, cool images for your social media account, a bruise or a scrape here and there… plus really muddy shoes that you will have to figure out how to clean afterwards!

Who is our audience?

Our participants are:
• Most of them are aged from 21 to 45 years.
• Single or married, with or without children

It’d be great if you came along with your own group, but for as long as you are willing to help yourself and others, you can participate!

If you don’t have a team though, do not hesitate to buy an individual ticket. You will find that you will not be bored at the event, not even for a minute, even if you wanted to! The obstacles are designed in such a way that each and every participant will be a part of one massive team with one goal.

You will run side-by-side with hundreds of other participants and will most definitely make some spontaneous friendships along the course (yes, just one of the Legion Run course side effects!)

Share your strengths and do not leave anyone behind!

All you need to do is pay for the first ticket. During the signup process you will be asked to set up the team name, generate a secret code and voila! Your team has just been created.

People you invite to the team may then join whenever they want by entering the secret team code.

Upon registration everyone pays for their own ticket individually but benefit from the team discount.

• How to join my team?

Just fill in the registration form, add your team name and the secret team code in the appropriate fields. It’s as simple as that!

• How many people can be on a team?

It’s entirely up to you!

However to benefit from the team discount, a minimum number of 25 team members apply.

Some follow strict diets and workout routines. Others eat 2 minute noodles and regularly participate in drinking sessions.

Either training plan is fine by us.

What we do require is for you to train yourself to be aware when another person needs your help.

We will soon announce a Team of Fitness Trainer with their contact details.

Though we have numerous water obstacles, none of them require basic swimming skills.

All you need is the courage to start and go through with it.

Our participants may act like grown-up children most of the time, but they all are over 18.

There will be activities for spectators though so children and non-registered adults may enjoy what our partners have to offer outside the course.

We will be allowing 16-18 year old teenagers to participate with their registered guardians (family or relatives).

You will receive a confirmation mail immediately after registration online. This will include your ticket as well as a waiver form. Please print it, read the attached waiver carefully and then sign it.

Additionally, in the week before the event, we will send you two more emails with useful info such as recommendations, list of must-haves and directions on how to reach us.

Please check your spam folder first.

If you still can’t find the confirmation mail, notify us at and we’ll fix things up for you.

Yes. Changes are possible up to two weeks before the event date. Change fees may apply.

Refunds will only be done in cases where legion run itself cancels the event.
Under no other circumstances will a refund be allowed.

When should I arrive?

We recommend you arrive an hour before the wave you want to participate in starts. the waves will be every 20 minutes with 175 people in each wave.

GUN STARTS at 8:00AM. Kit Claiming and Check in is open starting 6AM.

Allow yourself enough time to park, register, warm up.

Take in the setup of the event grounds and familiarize yourself with it.

This will be a good chance for you to check out the activities with your group as well as shop, eat and get to know the other people joining the fun!

Keep in mind that, if you come late, you may not be able to join your team’s wave and will have to run in the next available wave.

What do I need to bring in order to check in?

Bring a valid government ID (ID card, passport or driving license) plus your printed and signed ticket.

What should I wear?

Anything you feel comfortable wearing while running, jumping, climbing and crawling through mud is fine. Recommended:
• Half-finger training (grip) gloves
• Long tights / compression pants
• Knee high socks
• Sports shoes

During the run, do NOT wear anything that you would not want it to be covered with mud all over. Don’t think so much about looking cool, be practical and wear clothes you won’t be worried about. But if you won’t be worried about wearing a costume, your pyjamas or your favorite dress then by all means go for it for as long as you can do the course in it! It is meant to be fun after all!

How long does it take to run the course?

Finish time depends on you and your team, on whether you are competitive by nature or you are doing the course just for the fun of it. The average finish time is an hour and a half.

Am I allowed to skip obstacles?

Of course! Remember?! This is not a competition, so there are no penalties for bypassing.

In fact, we actively encourage you to skip obstacles if you are even the slightest bit unsure. Feel free to just take photographs, videos or cheer people on if you choose to bypass.

The idea is to challenge one’s self and have fun, not to be terrified and get injured to the point of not having fun anymore!

Will there be food and drinks on site?

Along the course there will be several stations with free water and sports drink for all the participants. There will also be food and drink vendors on site offering something for everyone, so please don’t bring food and drinks with you.

Will there be medical help?

Yes. Several first aid teams will be positioned along the course, ready to assist immediately if medical help is needed.

Medical city south Luzon is also 500 meters away from the event premises.

Will there be any after-party?

Why after?! The whole event itself is a priceless party – there will be food, drinks, music and some happy muddy creatures wandering around.

The location map and GPS coordinates are listed on your event page.

Additionally, in the week before the event we will email you the directions to the site. In the meantime, keep an eye on the Facebook page of your event for more news and updates.

Do you offer transport to the event location?

We don’t. However feel free to use the Facebook page of the event to search for or post ride-sharing announcements.

But who knows, surprises are everywhere. So stay tuned.

Will there be parking available at the event?

Yes, Paseo de Sta Rosa. Minimal fee applies.

Will there be showers and portalet?

Yes. Do not expect five-star facilities though. You’ll be able to hose down mud and sweat at the end of the course. We kindly ask all participants to use the shower facilities wisely in order to avoid unnecessary queues.

Spectators are surely allowed! The more the merrier!

The fun is definitely worth it!

They will also be able to choose their own activities from the host of event partners on the day!

Do you charge a spectator fee?

Am I allowed to walk the course along with the participants?

Hell yeah! We are among the few in the obstacle course industry that allow spectators to fully experience the event thrill. They are allowed to follow the participants at some of the course and take pictures. But please note that spectators must not get in the way of participants, attempt or complete obstacles.

Am I allowed to take pictures or make videos on site?

As many as you want! But if you represent a media, you need to request accreditation and provide us a copy of the footage afterwards.

Can minors and kids come as spectators?

Sure they can! There will be plenty of activities for them too! If you want to enjoy the Legion Run vibe to its fullest though, we recommend you make sure there is someone else attending to their needs while you are at the course.

Can I bring my dog?

Only k-9 and guide dogs will be allowed at the event.

We’re sure your pets are awesome but we’d like to protect them too from any harm from the event.

Please email with your full name, phone number, media organization and role not later than a week before the event date.

Legion Run reserves the right to modify or change its venues, dates, wave times, courses, fees, size of waves, and any other event details, to update website content or policies as needed, without prior notice. By accessing this website or signing up to a Legion Run event you agree to these terms. We update our website periodically so check your event page frequently as it may get updated with more current information than first seen upon registering.

We have some special activities for kids too. So watch out for more of the exciting things we will reveal in the next few weeks.
