CrossFit MNL Introduces Run MNL

Quezon City, PHILIPPINES – CrossFit MNL (CFMNL), the pioneer in bringing CrossFit in the Philippines, has proven to be the school of elite fitness. CFMNL has encouraged men and women of different fitness levels to try CrossFit in the country since 2011. From CrossFit, CFMNL has offered different programs such as Bootcamp, FitKids MNL, Strongman and Striking MNL.

CFMNL is bringing yet again, an innovation in fitness. We invite you to join Run MNL, a CFMNL program that will make every mile to be stronger and faster.

Running is considered a solitary sport—it’s you and where your feet may take you. But running with a group feels better and easier. Run MNL aims to make running a daily habit; to push the runner in every individual; to develop serious runners/specialists; and to make every mile you covered stronger.

Run MNL is open to all individuals and enthusiasts. Even for those who would just aim to lose those excess pounds to enjoy their lives longer and healthier. Run MNL is offered primarily in selected CFMNL boxes (i.e., Eastwood, Kapitolyo, San Juan).

Run MNL is a program specifically designed for running. As this is aimed to develop specialists, there will be series of agility drills, speed trials, intense cardio training/HIIT complemented by strengthening and conditioning skills. Run MNL conducts Community Run during weekends in selected areas where anyone can join regardless of their fitness level.

Run MNL also uses the latest feature of Runkeeper app (available on iOS and Android), Running Groups, where anyone can join a challenge anytime, anywhere. Monthly challenges are up such as running weekly or running mileage.

About CrossFit

CrossFit is a fitness program for everyone. It uses exercises from gymnastics, Olympic weightlifting, track and field, kettlebell training and other sports. Most workouts resemble circuit training and are finished in less than 30 minutes. http://cfmnl.com

About CrossfitMNL

A group of passionate athletes from different backgrounds were bored with gym or their usual training routine. These folks wanted to get the best results from a demanding, varied and fun workout. The journey began in 2011, when one member came across CrossFit in the USA and immediately fell in love and got addicted to the sport. Spreading the gospel about CrossFit to athletes coming from various disciplines, they formed CrossFit MNL knowing the benefits of the program and the need for a new sport in the Philippines.

The Great LEAN Run 2015

The Great LEAN Run 2015

Elders tell me I am lucky I did not experience the Marcos regime – I was born in 1986. I did not fully understand this so I had to rely on history lessons and stories from my grandparents to know what kind of life Filipinos experienced during that time.

But are there young ones who are still personally interested to know about this part of our history? UP came up with a running event to reach out and educate the young generation about a great student leader who rose during that time. Read about The Great LEAN Run below.

UNIQUE OBSTACLE RUN TO RELIVE MARTIAL LAW PERIOD

Have you ever wondered what it was like to live in that dark period of our nation’s history when the free press was shut down, the voice of the people was suppressed, and thousands of Filipinos were abducted, tortured and summarily executed?

The University of the Philippines is again living up to its reputation as the bastion of youth social consciousness, this time through a obstacle run that will give runners a taste of what it was like during the years of Martial Law.

Dubbed The Great LEAN Run (TGLR), the activity will feature obstacles reminiscent of dictatorial rule, such as barbed wire, water cannons, anti-riot police, arbitrary arrests and much more. Runners will aim to survive the challenges of the course for a chance to win prizes, not to mention unique bragging rights.

TGLR honours the life of Lean Alejandro, student leader of the 1980s who led the student movement that helped a national people’s action to depose then President Ferdinand Marcos.

Atty. Susan Villanueva, Chairman of the UP SAMASA Alumni Association, said, “The overthrow of the dictator and our subsequent return to democracy is a major victory of the Filipino people. The youth of today should be made aware of the real situation at the time so that they can learn from it and be guided by its lessons as they become the new leaders of the nation”.

Proceeds of the obstacle run will go to the UP fund for the Liwasang Lean Alejandro.

The Great LEAN Run will be held on September 19, Saturday, 5:00pm at the UP Sunken garden and Academic Oval in Diliman. Registration is ongoing online at The Great LEAN Run Facebook page and Chris Sports branches at SM Megamall, SM City North, Glorietta 3 and Metro Market Market BGC.
